Essentials of data protection.  (Half day)

This course guides Phil through data protection requirements as he sets up his business - trading via a shop, a website and taking telephone orders.

Course objective: To provide the knowledge and practical skills to apply data protection to your business or organisation. 

Particularly suitable if: you are starting up a business or will be responsible for data protection in a small or medium sized enterprise or organisation

Data protection awareness for your staff  (1 hour to half day)

course objective: To provide all your staff with the awareness they need to help protect your business.  The course encourages a pro-active attitude and is full of practical exercises and games to make it a fun learning experience.  Training can be tailored to include specific requirements and procedures within your organisation.

Top 10 data protection blunders and how to avoid them (1 hour to half day).

A topical approach addressing the things that most commonly go wrong with data protection - in all types and sizes of organisation.  The course will refer to recent data protection accidents that have got into the news!

course objective: To provide you with the practical knowledge to avoid the most common data protection risks. 

particularly suitable if: You don't have much time but need to do a data protection risk check for your organisation

Direct Marketing - getting data protection right (half day)

Direct marketing can be a data protection minefield.  This course guides you through a campaign step by step looking at the data protection requirements.

course objective: To provide practical knowledge to apply to your direct marketing campaigns to get the data protection right - including when using electronic channels such as email and SMS.

Getting permissions right - wordings and other considerations
Preference services - what & when to use
Message content requirements
Managing suppressions
Third parties -  selling on and renting in  - essential points

In April 2007, a private investigation firm admitted obtaining and selling personal information illegally.  It had obtained the details of 250 individuals working for the Department for Work & Pensions by phoning up and pretending to be employees. 

 

Staff need to be trained to guard against 'blaggers' phoning up and using social engineering tactics to obtain information illegally.
