In February 2007, the Advertising Standards
Authority ruled that the opt out on a direct marketing text message was not
clear enough. It just said 'Opt out available' and didn't make it
clear that people could call the sales number in the message to opt out of
future messages.
The Information Commissioner has provided an example of a suitable format
for an opt out in a text message: PJLtdSTOPMSGSTXTSTOPTO1234
